This site is a tribute to Christopher Stringer. He is much loved and will always be remembered.
Fly High, Fly Free
Born in Leeds to Anne and Hughie Emerson, Chris grew up in Otley with his three cousins, (Eliza)Beth, Stephen and Andrew. A close knit family with his Aunts Margaret and Kate and Uncles Billy and Bernard. Chris was a cheeky, thoughtful, loving and caring man with a bear hug to be envied and a tendency to swear – a lot!
When Chris was two he sadly lost his father; his mother married Allan Stringer when Chris was six and subsequently Chris took his Stepfather's family name.
Chris was, in his younger days, very sporty and enjoyed most games but he excelled at Rugby in his teens. He broke his nose twice playing Rugby, one instance of which happened in France on a tour over there. No-one is quite sure what happened to the French player involved. In later years he enjoyed ski holidays with his wife, Susie, and family and friends.
Aviation was his passion having started work in the holidays as a Baggage Handler at Leeds Bradford Airport and subsequently worked for Britannia Airways (which then became Thomson Holidays and then Tui) and then most recently working for Menzies/ASIG.
In 1984 Chris moved to Bournemouth to study Business Finance with a Tourism specialism; whilst studying he met Susie who, unbeknownst to both of them at that time, would eventually marry in 1989.
Taken too soon, he now swaps his Aviation Wings for Angel Wings (albeit a cheeky sweary one!).
I’m going to miss you giving me a lecture on the wonders of the humble Pork Pie bud.
In loving memory of Chris. Wishing you comfort and peace Susie, during this difficult time. Thinking of you and your family with love.
